NAACP WARNS BLACK PASSENGERS ABOUT USING AMERICAN AIRLINES

The NAACP sounded a warning on Tuesday advising black travelers to avoid American Airlines based on “a pattern of disturbing incidents reported by African-American passengers, specific to American Airlines.” According to the notices, there have been incidents that “suggest a corporate culture of racial insensitivity and possible racial bias” and booking flights on the airline could expose them to “disrespectful, discriminatory, or unsafe conditions.” A spokesperson for American Airlines was “disappointed” to hear of the advisory and went on to say, “our team members—a diverse community of gate agents, pilots, and flight attendants—are proud to serve customers of all backgrounds.”

What’s Next? Representatives from the NAACP will be meeting with American Airlines at their headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.
