OBAMA PICKS HIP-HOP PORTRAITIST TO PAINT OFFICIAL PORTRAIT

Former President Barack Obama has made another inspired choice, He has selected hip-hop portraitist Kehinde Wiley to paint his official presidential portrait. Wiley is known for his larger-than-life portraits that infuse black street culture with European aesthetics. Wiley has painted LL Cool J, LL Cool J in the style of John Singer Sargent, Ice T riding astride a horse a la Napoleon by David and young African American men in stained glass tableaus, like saints in a cathedral. The Obamas’s portraits will be unveiled at The National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC next year.
